DR. MICHELLE MONKMAN
Clinical Director and Optometrist specializing in perioperative care
Dr. Monkman is an experienced optometric physician who brings over 30 years of dedication to patient-centered eye care. A 1992 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Monkman served the Pendleton community for 29 years before joining Lifestyle Eye Center. Her commitment to both her profession and her community is reflected in her past leadership as president of the Oregon Board of Optometry and her service as a school board member. She remains actively involved in local service organizations and is excited to continue providing high-quality vision care in a collaborative, patient-focused environment at Lifestyle Eye Center.
She has extensive experience in preoperative and postoperative care of cataract and glaucoma patients. She is a trusted colleague in glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and low vision.
Dr. Monkman enjoys reading, walking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, John Bradt, and her kids, James & Taylor, and Katie & Hans. She enjoys volunteering in her community in the ASPIRE program at Pendleton High School.

DR. TARA EVANGER
Clinical Director and Optometrist specializing in Dry Eye Treatment
Dr. Evanger graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2014 and has been passionate about providing high quality eye care since. Dr. Evanger is LEC’s optometrist and clinical director. She is a dry eye specialist and is one of the only doctors in the Walla Walla Valley that is trained in the LipiFlow treatment, the only FDA-approved treatment for the most common form of dry eye. She also tests, assesses, and evaluates patients who may need surgery prior to their appointment with the surgeon.
She has taken continuing education courses focused on surgical procedures, disease treatment and prevention, and has special interests in diabetes, cataract care, uveitis and glaucoma.
Dr. Evanger enjoys cooking and baking, entertaining, exploring new places and spending time with her husband, Justin, their son and two lab dogs on their family farm in Walla Walla, Washington.

DR. ARTHUR GIEBEL, FOUNDER
Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Giebel specializes in cataract and cornea surgery and optimizing vision.
Dr. Giebel graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1991, but his love for medicine and passion for healthy living started at a young age. Dr. Giebel grew up traveling the world with physician parents who taught him the beauty of service and the importance of healthy living. Since then Dr. Giebel has provided eye care in developing countries all over the world and enjoys opportunities for service whenever he gets the chance.
He is well-known in the ophthalmology community for his contribution to the invention of Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), which is a minimally-invasive, small-incision cornea transplant and has become the new standard in modern cornea transplant surgery. He is a frequently cited author and has been invited to speak at conventions around the world, ranging from Latvia to Brazil. He has also taught at University of California Irvine and Loma Linda VA Medical Center.
Dr. Giebel is one of the first physicians to become board certified in Lifestyle Medicine from the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and he loves sharing his knowledge and passion for healthy living with his patients.
He founded Lifestyle Eye Center in 2010 with his wife Lisa, as a way to combine his love for ophthalmology with his interest in promoting an active lifestyle and a whole-food, plant-based diet as the best form of preventive medicine.
He currently lives in Walla Walla, Washington, where he and his family run a small farm. In his spare time he enjoys exploring the outdoors through hiking, scuba diving and traveling.
Dr. Giebel is well known for his knowledge, kindness and passion for excellence.
He has performed more than 20,000 eye surgeries in his career. Patients have come from Guam, Canada, and across the country to seek out his expertise and care.
